Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) is a leading product development partnership (PDP) in the field of antimalarial drug research and development. Its mission is to reduce the burden of malaria in disease-endemic countries by discovering, developing and delivering new, effective and affordable antimalarial drugs.

Over the past 21 years, MMV has worked with an extensive network of donors, private and public sector partners, experts and clinical centres in endemic countries to develop an outstanding portfolio of antimalarial projects.

We are currently seeking an Associate Director, Communications for a period of 18 months. The successful candidate will manage MMV’s internal and external communications in line with MMV’s organizational strategy. This includes the production of MMV’s corporate publications and other essential communication materials to raise the credibility and visibility of MMV. The role also includes the function of internal stakeholder management, MMV brand guardian and communications representative on cross-functional teams at MMV.

 The Associate Director of Communications will:

  •  Work with Director of Communications to implement MMV’s communications strategy to raise awareness among stakeholders of the malaria burden, the need for research and development, and MMV’s position as a leading product development partnership
  • Conceptualise and produce MMV publications and other written material from the annual report to digital content, donor materials, articles, issue briefs, reports, graphics etc.
  • Draft press releases and briefing documents for spokespeople, as well as disseminate and monitor uptake, as needed
  • Support the development and ensure visibility of MMV thought leaders
  • Conceptualise and produce short films and animations
  • Act as ‘MMV brand guardian’ and maintain appropriate and consistent language and terminology across all media
  • Advise cross-functional teams as well as the fundraising and advocacy teams on communications matters and offer support and communications tools, assisting in their production, to meet internal and external communications needs
  • Strengthen and build relationships with communications departments at partner organizations
  • Keep up-to-date with developments in the malaria community to enable the creation of key messages when needed
  • Manage the review of communications-led documents for external readers through the MMV process
  • Manage relationships with communications providers and consultants

  Education and experience:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in science, communications or public health
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in communications, preferably at an international organization and/or in the area of public health or science
  • Proven experience in building and sustaining productive relationships with external partners
  • Experience in analyzing relevant reports and information for dissemination to the management team
  • Experience in producing corporate publications within branding guidelines

 Technical skills required:

  •  Exceptional English language writing, editing, proofreading, scripting and interviewing skills
  • Ability to understand and comply with ethical, legal and regulatory obligations associated with medical / pharmaceutical product communications
  • Expertise with Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe
  • French language skills an asset
